Horse Training

We offer a full range of training at the farm, including starting young horses, continuing training for mature horses, and preparation for evaluations. Training includes 4 or more sessions per week and is supervised and planned by Gudmar Petursson. Training is done both by Gudmar Petursson and his staff.

Board:
$375 per month for geldings and mares
$475 per month for stallions

Training:
$625 per month

Vacation board:
Pasture board offered only for horses in long-term training that need time off.
$200 per month during the summer months
$250 per month during the winter.

Mare care fee:
For mares that come to be bred to one of our stallions.
$250 per month

We provide farrier services for your horse while it is in training. Gudmar has been shoeing horses since he was 13 years old. He specializes in shoeing for the needs of the gaited Icelandic horse and has had extensive training at Holar.
Regular shoeing: $120
Hoof Trimming: $55

All horses that visit our farm must have a current Coggins and health certificate and the following vaccinations: Flu, Rhino, Rabies, West Nile, Strangles, Tetanus, and Eastern and Western Encephalomyelitis.

Finding the Right Horse for You

It is very important that the rider be matched up with the type of horse that will best suit her/his needs. Either we can conduct a specific search for a horse just for you, or you can take part in one of our America 2 Iceland trips and see many handpicked horses available for purchase. We also take horses on consignment here at our farm if we feel that they are well suited for the market.

Horse Import

With clients from Texas to Alaska and in most countries in Europe, we have extensive experience in transporting horses to many parts of the world. We can make all the arrangements to get your horse to you by the safest and least expensive route.

Riding Lessons

We conduct riding lessons for all ages and levels of riders. Private, semi-private, or group lessons are available. Please call for availability (502-243-9996 ext. 3).

Private lessons $65 for 45 minutes
Semi-private lessons $55 for 45 minutes
Group lessons (3-4 students) $45 per person for 55 minutes

Riding Clinics

Each year Gudmar travels all over the world conducting riding clinics. These are very much in demand and can serve as a great educational opportunity for your group or club. Beginning this year, we will also be offering clinics from other well-qualified Icelandic horse trainers. Check our calendar for current dates and clinicians.
